The Stenson Foundation was born from a deeply personal journey. A year after our 3-year-old daughter, Charlie, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, we were introduced to the world of childhood cancer research—a world of tireless work and hope but one in desperate need of more support. Enrolling Charlie in a trial protocol exposed us to the shocking reality: pediatric cancer is the number one disease taking our children far too soon, yet it remains vastly underfunded on a federal level.
Through Charlie's courageous journey, she participated in two groundbreaking trials that dramatically improved her quality of life and promised better outcomes for kids facing similar battles. It became clear to us that there was an immediate need to bring our community together, raise funds, and create lasting change for tomorrow's children.

Our connection to childhood cancer runs deep within our family. Not only did we walk alongside Charlie during her battle, but Derek's sister Bailey is also a childhood cancer survivor. These experiences have forever changed us, opening our eyes to both the tremendous challenges and the incredible possibilities in childhood cancer treatment.
We've witnessed firsthand the power of innovative research and how it can transform outcomes for young patients. But we've also seen the gaps—the urgent need for more funding, more breakthroughs, and more support for families navigating this challenging journey.
